Pride of place

A wee while ago I was given this dress by a friend's Mother,
I had put off posting about it as I wanted to get photo's that would do it justice, I've given up waiting for the optimum weather and just done it, please bear with me!
Originally the dress was given to my friend, however after modelling it for her teenage daughters who kindly informed her that she 'looked like she was in her dressing gown', she passed it onto me! whoop whoop...yes please!
The fabric is totally unreal, it has clearly been very loved as you can see by the bias binding on the neck wearing through. I took it to my Gran hoping that she could tell me something about the composition and era as she was a tailor back in the day.
We both decided it was a silk fabric, (it has a silk feel, but not a typical eastern silk feel, slightly thicker...perhaps with a cotton in there too?) She seemed to think that going by the detailing on the seams (the whole thing is French seamed) & the classic drop waist that it was a 1930's style, weather it was made then, who knows?
The floral reminds me of an older style Liberty print.
It truly is a prized possession!
I'd love to hear what you think?

A special visit

A bit of light reading.

Most amazing lunch ever.

Every now and then in life, you randomly meet someone who straight away, you know you would get on great with. A while ago there became a new, full time 'counter' lady at our local sallies. She has one of those personalities that you instantly feel relaxed around and as I 'often frequent' the old sallies, we became rather used to each other. Ironically we later discovered that our two teenage daughters were also close friends, and since then, we have grown a friendship I truly cherish.
Megan (Meegs as we call her) has a rather special wee Mum, and I was lucky enough to join her in Masterton for lunch a few weeks ago & pretty much drool over all her furniture & fabulous clothes.
Erin is truly the most admirable, classy, hilarious & beautiful 73 year old lady I have met. Her spirit & personality are that of super trendy 30 something living in the roaring 40's.
This woman owns (and wears) strapy red velvet stilettos for goodness sake!
I had a fabulous day with Megan & Erin eating, wining & yakking.
Erin is also a keen salvo's worker (hence her beautiful house full of amazing furniture) We went for a wee Saturday squizzy down at her local stomping ground where I picked up some old oak dewy drawers that have come from a library somewhere. They are now in my sewing room waiting for my next 'thrift scores of the century post'
Erin is a mother to 9 children!
She is awesome.

You little hussy

The local Salvo's have started doing 'collectables week', There have two of these in the last 6 or so months. I'm in two minds about them, as it means all the good old stuff gets held out the back for these special sales, but it does give me an opportunity to get some very cool stuff, all at once, and if I'm really organized...potentially save my pennies for this special occasion! So last week was collectibles week, & on Monday morning my car had a flat battery. A sign from the universe to not be blowing mullah on un-needed goodies perhaps!
I had a nice wee hermit week at home plodding, fluffing, enjoying having all the kids (bar Ginny poo) at school, and not having to drive ANYWHERE!
But then.....
on Friday...
my salvo's spy informed me that all collectible will be half price on Friday, so as I had to collect the milk in town anyway, I tootled in for a wee squander and holy shit balls look what I found...& bought for $12.50!
I.LOVE.HER
A LOT!
She has all her original bits including 3 interchangeable cams which do all kinds of fancy stitches.
And my favourite colour too.
Thanks salvos fairy
I love you too ;-)

Fabric score of the year.....

I hit the jackpot yesterday in our local arts recycling center. Some amazing person has had a serious organizational spree since I visited last as the fabric room is now categorized. I tripped and fell into the retro bin big time!
I also fell in love with two bags of vintage ribbon, one with old velvet ribbon would you believe! Oh how I love vintage ribbon.....

As for this little beauty, well?........

New acquisition

The first time in my life I've spent more than $10 on nail polish....OPI 'suzi takes the wheel'.

An up-grade from old box brownie

The lion, the witch & the .........
I've had a few very special wee things enter my house lately, the first is our new camera, I've been without a camera for ages (I may have dropped ours on the road). So I borrowed a friends, which according to Fleur 'fell off the piano from the wind' (hehe) So both LCD's were broken & photo's were a bit of hit & miss, just like the good old days! I'm learning to use this piece of hi-tech brilliance, just not so keen on the monthly HP invoice!!
The next very exciting thing is my new (old) wardrobe I scored on trade me for $103 smackers. I seriously had to reduce my clothes by about 1/3 to fit them in here, but we had a garage sale and broke even which was awesome! The reason I needed a new wardrobe is because my lovely has smashed out the two large wardrobes that were side by side between our room & the girls room, to make way for a new toilet, the first step toward turning our scary cold old laundry (where the loo currently is) into a new kitchen (when I say 'new' it will be predominately made from recycled materials). Exciting things I tell you.....exciting in deed.

Little red riding hood?

Random pic I know, but the wind blowing sheer white curtains is one of my favourite things.

I have been really excited about sewing THIS little number for quite a few weeks now,
I used a mossy green wool I bought at 'fabric'-a-brac' with a cotton lining from spot light.
I'm looking forward to making some more, perhaps with a peter pan collar like the caplets I've made for my felt shop, or summer capes made from cotton alone.
My little model was not so willing today, therefor no posy shots!...... Well only spag bog ones, she seems to be her happiest when completely nude, absolutely NO socks at all thank you, definitely no capes!
Hmmmmm what else?...
Stuffed potatoes for tea tonight which were bloody nice, made with my giant home grown spuds.
I really enjoyed THIS DVD, also THIS one too.
And I've been grooving to THESE TWO songs while cooking tea.
Have a great weekend, if your around Kapiti this Saturday, check out the medieval fair in Levin.
